Our "YOGA 101" Gentle Beginner's Classes are constructed to give you a solid foundation in yoga so you will feel confident attending an ongoing practice. These classes are designed for those who have never practiced yoga before, or for those who are looking to begin an exercise regime and need help beginning a practice.
YOGA 101 teaches you basic yoga techniques, including the alignment and form of the postures, breath awareness methods and beginning meditation techniques. YOGA 101 serves as a foundation from which you may springboard your yoga practice.
Whether you go on to attend our Hatha Yoga classes, or decide to explore other types of yoga, know that the classic postures (“asanas”), breathwork (“pranayama”) and meditation techniques that we practice in YOGA 101will enable you to have a solid beginning. These classes have time allotted for question and answers, and are held in a relaxed, "beginner-friendly" atmosphere.
If you've been curious about yoga, starting an exercise program, or just learning how to breathe and relax, this class is for you!
Our Hatha Yoga Classes are open to students who have practiced yoga in the past, or have been practicing for some length of time. All students are encouraged to listen carefully to their bodies and practice at their own level.
Classes begin with pranayama (or breathwork), meditation and mindfulness exercises. Each class incorporates scientifically supported Hatha Yoga postures designed for building strength, stamina, balance and flexibility. T'ai Ch'i or Ch'i Kung postures may be incorporated into the classes to help increase joint flexibility, and "yin" postures (held for 1-3 minutes) may be interspersed throughout class for further lengthening and elongating connective tissue. Applications of the 7 chakras are included into each class, and help students increase their knowledge of the subtle body.
Hatha Yoga classes include sun salutations, warriors, downward dogs, triangles, balancing postures, etc., and increase stamina and strength, as well as flexibility. Core work is routinely incorporated. Although this is not "hot" yoga, you may just "glisten" a little, as muscles are strengthened, and metabolism is increased. A relaxing "savasana" ends every class and the healing sounds of the Tibetan Singing Bowls are played to encourage conscious integration.

Our Restorative/Gentle Classes Many yoga practitioners believe that Restorative Yoga should be practiced one day a week, one week a month, and one month a year.
Restorative/Gentle classes focus on slow, very gentle postures (no warriors, downward dogs, etc) and also include restorative postures which are designed to relax the body, heal the spirit, and calm the "monkey mind." These classes are for "wise ones," and support those who are a little more advanced in years, pre or post natal, as well as those healing injuries, or those looking for a totally meditative atmosphere. Detailed emphasis is placed on the breath, and different breathing techniques are practiced, as well as meditation techniques to help you relax and focus.
Regular Practitioners who are looking to compliment their practice with restorative postures will love these classes to restore and heal their bodies and spirits. They are designed with a therapeutic and gently healing approach, and focus on the more meditative aspects of Yoga. Tibetan Singing Bowls are played throughout these classes to encourage deep relaxation and chakra cleansing. Sometimes guided visualizations/yoga nidra are included to further restore the mind and body. Most students report feeling quietly energized, de-stressed, and relaxed after these classes.
